Beginners' Course March 2005

On the 14th of March our second beginners’ course started numbering 16 enthusiastic people.

St Andrews Kendo Club proves those people wrong who think little of this region and cling to old clichés. This time around the local contingent also seems to have more support from the university, RAF Leuchars and Dundee which is a very encouraging sign as kendo is a socially inclusive martial art. Kendo does not begin and end at the dojo doors. Your spiritual development is instrumental to community building in the wider society.

The beginners’ course started with shinai maintenance and general reigi (etiquette) but we also managed to practise some footwork and even suburi with the rest of the club.

Beginners’ motto for 14 March: Float like a butterfly and sting like a bee!
