East Fife Sports Awards 2009

Andy, I and Ezra all joined Michael at the evening event at Elmwood
College.  As you all know I had taken it upon myself to nominate Michael
for Coach of the Year.  My reason being that he has been the mainstay of
the St Andrews Kendo Club since it began in 2004 and has supported us
all with our development in Kendo both in and out of the Dojo.  To now
have members who are at Nidan and Shodan levels and a core of regulars
who strive to achieve these levels every week deserves to be recognised.
This is a much summarised version of my nomination I have to say.

Anyway on the night the awards recognised sporting achievements from
many disciplines:  athletics, cricket, tennis, bowls, golf, swimming,
ten pin bowling, kendo, taekwon-do and across all ages.  We were all
quite surprised by the talent and achievements in sport within Fife - we
have a lot to be proud of for a small Kingdom!  The Coach of the Year
was a strongly contested category that had received a considerable
number of nominations.  For Michael to have made the short list was a
significant achievement and is to be congratulated.  The other nominees
on the night were from tennis and cricket.  Unfortunately Michael missed
out this year to Andy Thomson whose 25 years dedication to tennis won
deserved recognition.

All in all a good night - free food and drink were also provided which Ezra
took full advantage of!  There are a number of awards that the members
of the St Andrews Kendo Club could be entered for if we keep up our
spirit and dedication, so the Committee will certainly be taking this on
board in future years.
